I was born in India and left as a small child when India gained her independence: our family was part of the British diaspora. Throughout my life my country of origin held a tantalizing mystique for me. Sixty-five years later, in January of 2013, I returned and spent a month travelling the length and breadth of that fascinating country in the company of three women, two of whom are relatives, and also India-born. This work is part of a series called “India-Returned” based on my photos, the journal I kept, and my research and reading on the subject.
